What if?
“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” -Frederick Buechner
. . . . . . .
What if the topic you love to talk about is the very area God could use you?
. . . . . . .
What if the skillset that makes you come alive could be your ministry platform?
. . . . . . .
What if the injustice you want to see redeemed is where God wants to place you?
. . . . . . .
What if preparing for where you will be in 10 years could start today?
Who is a Worker in Training?
All Kingdom Channels field workers need a minimum two-year service commitment and some level of training and preparation. The term “worker in training” refers to anyone who has committed to serve as a field worker in the 10/40 Window with Kingdom Channels. The time frame as a worker in training and the extent of the preparation track will vary widely. Someone joining an existing team may have only a part of a year and a few training events. Opportunities abound for pioneering new fields in the 10/40 Window, and someone preparing for a new field may have a multi-year track with extensive preparation.
What are some benefits?
As a worker in training, your preparation costs are eligible to be sponsored. You will receive a KC prayer card and sponsorship link enabling your support network to empower your preparation journey.
Workers in training receive a 50% scholarship discount on all KC facilitated trainings. This does not apply to trainings taken before the worker in training commitment.
Invitation to attend Synergy and other events to pray and strategize with others also passionate about changed hearts in the 10/40 Window.
How can I move forward?
Work with KC leadership to help discern a path forward. You can become a worker in training before your service location is determined.
Work with KC leadership to draft a preparation plan that can be shared with your church and support network.
Be in conversation with your church early in the process. They should have a copy of “Sending Churches and Kingdom Channels” and the “KC Great Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Core Commitments.”
Stories from the Field
God Knows All Languages
She told me she tries to read her Arabic Bible but it's so hard for her to understand. She longs for a day when she can read the Word in her heart language. She looks at me with pleading eyes. "Will this dream ever become reality?" she wonders.
I think of my current language abilities and the inadequacy I feel to study scripture with her. I think of my God who is able to take my few loaves and fishes and multiply them beyond what I could ever imagine. I whisper a prayer and offer, "Would you like to study with me? You can read Arabic, I will read English, and we will discuss in Kurdish?"
Her eyes lit up with a joy I will always remember. Yes, she would love that! So I look to the Father, the one who knows each language and the desires of this young lady's heart. I praise Him because as we have studied, we have never come to a place where she hasn't been able to understand or I haven't been able to explain- this truly is God's doing!
A Little Note
One of my former students handed me a slip of paper with a little note on it. It read:
“Thank you for being an important part of my story!”
It was a solid reminder to me that while I may not always see results and may wonder about how much of a difference we are making, there is much more than we can see. [The class she was a part of was one of the hardest classes I’ve ever taught due to problems and strife between families that impacted the class.]
My time here will soon be over. It’s easy to wonder, “Did I make a big enough impact? Am I making enough of a difference now?” And yet, one can never measure the worth of relationships and teaching and walking beside people. This little note encouraged me to press in and to continue being faithful, for in due season we will reap, if we faint not.
Who Will He or She Grow Up to Be?
Once they've all been welcomed, and seated, we start a time of singing together. I watch their little faces, intent on mastering the new English song. "Let the whole earth remind you of what God has said, From the moment you wake up 'till you go to bed, Oh and even on days you forget what is true, Don't forget to remember, God won't forget you."
My heart melts a little, because look at them: all this passion and potential. It's easy to see the negative things - the pushing and yelling, the breaking of new crayons and constant asking for water, the arguing and nagging.
But what about the positive? What about the fact that these are little souls that we get to touch? And how do I know who is sitting in this classroom? What if one of these fiery little boys becomes a strong leader and believer? And that girl who always wants justice...What if she grows up to be an advocate for the weak and an intercessor for her people? You know? Oh, I know the odds are stacked against us. I know that standing for hope and healing will be like fighting an all out war some days, and that there will be so much that we want to see and so little results. But if I am here for statistics and outcomes, I might as well pack my bags and head back to the States. I am not here for statistics; I am here for the hearts of the people. I am here to plant some, to water some, and God will give the increase - because ultimately He holds the outcome of their lives in His hands. But it's my prayer that on the days where they bicker long and act disagreeable that I don't lose sight of their worth.
Because my human self can so easily resort to what the eye can see instead of seeing the great potential in each person I meet. And I truly want to see them with the same eyes God sees them - so incredibly valuable and full of potential and worth.
