Preparing for the 10/40 window takes many forms. You can start now, anywhere.
The fundamentals of the Christian life are indispensable. Pursue growth in your love for and understanding of God. Learn to understand and enjoy the scriptures. Develop your prayer and devotional life. Pursue relationships of peace, honor, and service with your church family, your coworkers, and your neighbors where God currently has you. Pay close attention to developing Christian virtues.
Develop your skills. It is amazing how many skills translate directly to the work. Almost any skill that you can develop in the context of a balanced and godly life will be an asset. Pursue excellence at your place of employment. Develop your interests whether by fixing cars, fixing computers, doing design or writing, serving with your local emergency services etc.
Take initiative in group efforts. Offer to organize a workday or outreach event for your church. Develop a plan for improving something at work and get your boss’s authorization to implement it and see it through. Success in a team depends on multiple members taking this sort of basic leadership initiative.
Learn and study. Find opportunities to meet people different from you. Go to events. Take trainings offered by us, or by other groups. Read extensively and intensively. We’ve got a list of books to get you started.
